Busses for the 21st Century:  Strengthening Vision and Action

Busses for the 21st Century Mobility was the third in a series of transportation policy conferences organized by Capitol Region Council of Governments, Connecticut Conference of Municipalities, the Institute of Municipal and Regional Policy at Central Connecticut State University and Regional Plan Association. It took place on April 11, 2008.

"Bright Ideas" on Community Design:

Stormwater Management Training:  On September 27, 2007, CRCOG, the Connecticut DEP and the U.S. EPA co-sponsored a daylong conference entitled “Stormwater in the City:  Managing Runoff, Improving Water Quality, Helping Neighborhoods.”   This conference was designed to educate and inform local decision-makers, planners, engineers, government officials and citizen advocates about managing stormwater in ways that can improve water quality and the urban environment.  During the day, speakers shared success stories, provided training on techniques to restore urban waters, and generated dialogue on how to address stormwater in an urban environment.  Urbanized areas exist within the watersheds of all our region’s rivers, so this training had broad applicability to Capitol Region communities.  Below are the Program Brochure and PDF files of each of the presentations.

Connecticut Summit on School Funding Reform: Co-sponsored by the Citizen's Network of the Capitol Region, the Capitol Region Council of Governments, the Central Connecticut State University Institute for Municipal & Regional Policy, MetroHartford Alliance, the League of Women Voters of Connecticut, the Capitol Region Education Council, and the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities, and funded by the William Caspar Graustein Memorial Fund, this conference was held on January 30, 2007 at CCSU.  Handouts from the meeting are available below.

Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Conference: How Can Connecticut Communities Take Advantage of TOD? was held on January 29, 2007, at Central CT State University.  The Capitol Region Council of Governments, Connecticut Conference of Municipalities, Institute for Municipal and Regional Policy at Central Connecticut State University and the Regional Plan Association (RPA) sponsored the conference with the goal of exploring the opportunities and difficulties of making TOD a reality.

Service Sharing in Connecticut:  On January 10, 2007, the Capitol Region Council of Governments and the Capitol Region Council of Governments Foundation, Inc. hosted the first in a series of seminars on Service Sharing. The symposium was held on the UConn Greater Hartford Campus in West Hartford.

The goal of the symposium was to enhance understanding and to encourage cooperation and collaboration between municipalities in response to the “permanent fiscal crisis” environment of local government.  A keynote address by David Osborne, author of “The Price of Government” and a service-sharing case study from Maine were featured.
