Route 195 Corridor Study
NEW! Tolland Green Traffic Calming Plans (posted 3/9/2010)
|
| |
| The Connecticut Department of Transportation (ConnDOT) and Capitol Region Council of Governments (CRCOG) are concluding a transportation study on Route 195 in Tolland. Initially the study was intended to identify the transportation needs and define near and long-term improvements along a 2.5 mile stretch of Route 195, but early in the study it became apparent that the community had a strong interest in improvements to Tolland Green. Alternatives reviewed throughout this study focused on traffic calming and safety in this historic town center. The final plans create a more pedestrian friendly environment through the use of several traffic calming techniques, additional Green area, enhanced crosswalks, and overall increased safety.
|
CRCOG managed the overall study with technical assistance provided by a consultant. A local Advisory Committee was appointed by the Tolland Town Council in an effort to guide the study and provide local input into the process. Meetings with the Advisory Committee were held throughout the study. Public informational meetings and workshops were held to present findings and solicit comments from the community.
The study recommendations have been accepted by the Advisory Committee and approved by the Town Council. The final plan consists of corridor recommendations that reflect comments from the Town and public. The recommendations have solid engineering principals behind them however detailed design and construction drawings must still be advanced separate from this corridor study process.
We feel the final plans successfully accomplish the goal of calming traffic, improving safety, and enhancing multi-modal facilities in the Town Green area. We appreaciate all of the community imput received throughout this study.

Public involvement and stakeholder input are key components to the successful advancement of our corridor studies. Three public meetings/workshops were held throughout the study to engage the community in this planning process. Additionally, members of the public were invited and were provided the opportunity to comment at all Advisory Committee meetings and workshops. Concerns from the public were addressed as these comments helped shape the final study recommendations.
